You can feel it early. The way someone steps in, not gently, but with urgency that doesn’t belong to you. It’s never really about the question. It’s about how quickly they expect you to open. When curiosity starts sounding like a demand, something shifts. It loses its honesty. Not every question deserves your answer. Not every person earns that level of access just because they asked for it. You don’t have to explain your pause. You don’t have to justify your distance. Real conversations don’t push. They don’t rush you into proving yourself. They move at a pace where you can breathe, where respect is felt without being asked for. The moment someone keeps pressing where you’ve gone quiet, that’s not genuine interest. That’s an entitlement wearing a softer tone. And you don’t need to reshape yourself to accommodate that. You can stay kind without giving more than you want to. You can stay respectful without unlocking doors that don’t feel safe. Boundaries are not rejection. They are clarity. And the ones who are meant to stay will never make you question where you stand.
